The Eternal City
After kicking off our Italy trip in Venice, we then made our way to the oh so glorious eternal city of Rome! Once again, it has always been a dream of mine to visit Rome and being there was an unforgettable experience. It took us about 3 to 4 hours to get there by train and when we finally arrived I could not believe my eyes - as I`m sure you can imagine.
For me, seeing the Flavian Amphitheatre (or better known as the Colosseum) in the center of Rome with my own eyes was one of the biggest deals. I never thought I`d actually see it for myself - everything felt like a dream.
While in Rome, we also had the amazing opportunity to visit The Vatican City (which I still can`t get over) and while there we of course visited St. Peters Basilica, The Sistine Chapel and The Vatican Museums. If I explained everything in detail and what those buildings represent, I`d be sitting at this laptop forever but do yourself a favour and do read up about it. Easily one of the most interesting States I`ve ever had the pleasure of visiting.
The hustle and bustle of the city and the vast amount of people reminded me so much of Cape Town - oh how I`ve missed the big city!
I didn`t really get to speak to many Italians so I can`t say too much about the culture, but I`ve never eaten so much Pizza and Pasta in one week ever. So if ever you`re in need of a carb overload, go to Italy!
I don`t think I need to go into too much detail, the pictures says it all... What I can say though, is that Rome is now easily one of my favourite cities in the world. Italy, I love you!
